BPA is an additive used in the production of polycarbonate, which has been widely used to produce baby bottle. BPA can leach from the plastic into liquid held in the bottles. Scientists have found that BPA can cause various health problems including cancer, diabetes, hyperactivity, obesity and early onset of puberty in females. On April 19th 2008, Health Canada (equivalent to FDA in the US) banned the use of polycarbonate for baby bottles based on its assessment of the health impacts of BPA on newborns and infants up to 18 months of age.
