How do you want your kid’s lunch and snacks packed for school?

Posted by

I wish I could confidently say that I’m getting the hang of back-to-school season, but my kids keep growing more often than every year! It’s inevitable that their needs change over time so aside from all the new school stuff to worry about, snack time or meal time is one equally important part of their school day that seriously needs attention.

Packing healthy food is already one thing, but the way school snacks or lunch is packed is another. So when it comes to packing food for school, I have two simple rules:

(1) For little ones, match their development. If your daycare baby or preschooler is just starting to learn to eat on his own, choose the most suitable lunch container and/or bag with specifications according to his ability and needs. He needs his lunch stuff to be on the sturdy side, but still supportive of his developing motor skills. For example, little hands need sturdy and spill-proof yet easy-open containers.

(2) For experienced school-age kids, match their school lifestyle and personality. If your son is active in school sports activities, or if your daughter is in a performing arts club, there is an ideally convenient lunch bag for a child who is always busy and on-the-go, and another for one with a laid-back school schedule. And because they are older kids, they will have their own preferences too, so it’s important to keep them in mind, or better yet involve them in decision-making when choosing the right lunch bags.

So what are your priorities right now for your kid’s snack container or lunch bag? Let me help you enjoy choosing!

Do you have an adventurous toddler? Then a sturdy, leak-proof, and mess-free container is everything! A bento box with removable compartments offer portioned food varieties and prevents them from mixing up together, while teaching your little the concept of getting organized! Choose ones that secure the food, like those with snap-on lids and locks that click.

If you have a big kid who stays in school for long hours, you will want an insulated lunch container to maintain temperature and seal freshness as long as possible. Although insulated food jars are usually made of stainless steel, there are ones that could weigh as light as 1 pound. They are also easier to clean than plastic ones.

There may be days when your child’s school schedule is different from the usual, and his packed lunch needs may vary too. So instead of using more than one different snack box, why not use a single, flexible lunch container with a movable and removable divider? Surprise your kid with different food varieties at different portions, any healthy way you like!

For growing kids with budding character, you can’t deny them a stylish and lightweight lunch bag to match their personality while keeping their convenience in mind. Their food and drink containers may already be a bit weighty, so why not get them something cute to hold them all together and that’s easy to carry?

Whatever your priorities and your child’s preferences are, always include safety. A safe, healthy, and eco-friendly snack bag is ideal for any kind of finger food like crackers and grapes because it’s reusable and free from toxic materials like BPA, phthalates, and lead. Get rid of throwing away used plastic wrappers and save the environment!
